The Western Chapter of CANSWA supports Continuing Care Assistants working in Longterm Care, in the community, and within the Hospital setting.
CANSWA Western also advocates for Support Workers working with individuals with Challenges and Special Needs. There is no affiliation between CCAs and Support Workers in our province; however, both work with vulnerable individuals.
The Western Chapter of CANSWA works to improve, support, and bring recognition to CCAs and Support Workers’ frontline efforts.
PCA’s are frontline healthcare workers and are valued members of the interprofessional team in long-term care facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, and the community.
PCA’s are responsible for providing support to residents and clients in all aspects of daily living through companionship, physical, spiritual, and psycho-social care. Also, they support families and residents for end of life issues.
We are important members of the nursing team in long-term care settings and community providing care to residents who are often complex and diverse, resulting from conditions as chronic illnesses of the frail and elderly. They provide care to residents and clients with physical and intellectual disabilities or mental illness.
The Ontario Personal Support Worker Association is the Professional Association for PSWs across Ontario. OPSWA is managed by PSWs and work to represent the vocation and improve the care societies most vulnerable receive. We understand the difficulties PSWs deal with every day. OPSWA represents thousands of Personal Support Workers across Ontario, and that number continues to grow.
OPSWA is Proud to be the first Chapter of the Canadian Support Workers Association. If you are from Ontario – we are YOUR association.
