Requirements:

• Personal Support Worker certificate
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Energetic
• Excellent organizational skills
• Previous experience working with developmental and physically disabled persons is preferred
• Valid First Aid and CPR Training
• Strong written and verbal communication

Major Responsibilities:

• Primary support for individuals with disabilities.
• In collaboration with team members, support the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of the core members who come to the program.
• Support individuals attending the program and accompany individuals with activities
• Respond to each person’s individual needs by respectfully supporting them with daily living skills, personal hygiene, and where needed.
• Encourage each person to achieve the highest level of independence in personal care and relationships.
• Understand and adhere to all standards, policies and procedures.

Duties include:

• Toileting/changing
• Feeding
• Positioning/transferring
• Supporting individuals throughout daily program activities and outings

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience supporting people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
• Demonstrated experience and passion for supporting individuals with complex medical support needs.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor and respond to sudden changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to fully implement and monitor support plans
• Demonstrated ability to empower others and promote independence.
• Effective communication skills.
• Proven conflict resolution skills.
• Strong team spirit, able to work cooperatively.
